Creating a 1930's bob

Products:

· Dry shampoo
· Vita point (leave in conditioner)
· Hairspray

Equipment:
· Pintail comb
· Hairbrush
· Hair tongs
· Small hair band
· Bristle brush
· Sectioning clips
· Hair grips
· Bun pins

Before creating this style prepare by setting up all kit, and turning on the curlers to around 20-30 degrees. Ensure that curlers are on a safe place on the work surface, away from the model to prevent injury.

Technique:
· Using the pintail comb create a deep side parting, following the end of the eyebrow.

· Use the comb to section off the front just behind the ears.

· On the larger front section, barrel curl the hair from top to bottom horizontally and secure in place using sectioning clips (these are better to use than bobby pins as it will not leave a mark in the curl and they are easier to remove from the hair).

· On the smaller front section, barrel curl the hair vertically and again secure in place using sectioning clips.

· When barrel curling layers, put the tongs lower down on the section and wrap the hair around.

· Take small sections of the top of the back section. Barrel curl and pin in place – these do not all have to be in the same direction like the front. Curl the top part of this section.

· Using the pintail comb backcomb the remainder of the back section and hairspray.

· Tie using the small hair band at the bottom of the hair.

· Roll up into a big barrel curl at the nape of the neck and cross grip in place.

· Use the bun pins and pintail comb to loosen hair slightly and to manipulate into place to create a bob shape.

· Unpin the curls at the top of the back section.

· Break apart using the end of the pintail comb – do not comb as it will make the hair frizzy. Use your hands to push the hair up.

· Tuck and pin the curls underneath the big barrel curl at the nape of the neck to create a bob-like effect.

· Unpin the front vertical sections and brush through using the bristle brush – it doesn’t matter if it goes frizzy.

· Put vita point/leave in conditioner through the hair to smooth it.

· Manipulate using the end of the pintail comb and pin into place – if creating a slick backed look pin into place and hairspray.

· Unpin the horizontal curls and brush through again using the bristle brush until the curls create a natural marcel wave.

· Secure the waves in place – to disguise them weave them through the hair so that they are hidden.

· Finish off the look by using a comb and hairspray to get rid of any fly away hairs – ensuring that you ask the model to close their eyes whilst spraying hairspray.
